Technology of the Thousand Stars

Technology is what separates space opera from its spiritual predecessor, horse opera. Technology is a prop, an enabler, a background color, and a form of magic. In space opera, the story is about characters and events, and technology is what is used to help tell that story. It's not what the story is about. As such, it is only really necessary to understand that the various kinds of technology work, they don't necessarily have to make sense. That said, these pages are here to give a basic explanation of that things are and what they do, in order to paint more interesting scenery with. After all, technobabble needs some place to start!
