NPCs of Fire Angels
The world of Theah is populated with all kinds of people, some of them strange beyond imagination and others as dull as the day is long. Here are listed some of the NPCs who have or will appear in Fire Angels.
Crew of the Witch's Folly
The Raven
Not a lot is understood about the Raven. She's a young (early twenties?) woman with long wavy black hair, dressed in a robe and hooded cloak of tattered black cloth. She lives in the crow's nest of the Witch's Folly and acts as the ship's lookout. In the first three and a half years of her occupation, she was never seen coming down from her perch for any reason and anyone who tried to remove her came to mysterious and terrible ends. How exactly she keeps herself and her perch clean is unknown, but that's the norm for her. No one is ever sure just what all she sees from up there, but when she feels something is of concern to the ship she'll sound her keen to get someone's attention. When not giving a warning, she tends to phrase what little she does say in riddles and conundrums.
Some think her a madwoman. Others think she's some kind of druid like Derwyddon, the Queen's advisor. Most think she's some kind of dark-souled guardian spirit, for ever since she came on board the Folly's curse has not fallen as heavily on the small ship. All of the crew agree, though, that she's creepy beyond reason and they'd rather not seek her out.
Sharon MacLean is a tall, sturdy woman who serves as the ship's cook and the de facto alpha female of the gundeck. Harassing one of her 'girls' is a dangerous proposition not only because she works with knives but also because she's not above putting a rock (or worse) in an offender's meal. In her late thirties, Sharon is a plain woman aside from the long golden hair that's usually bound up in a tartan scarf despite it being her best feature.
Kirstie Adderston
Kirstie is an attractive mixed-race woman from Marcina in the Midnight Archipelago, the Folly picked her up from the wreckage of Black Tom Benton's ship, where she was apparently part of the crew. Rumors abound that she was Black Tom's right hand and lover, but she's never confirmed or denied any of them. Since then, she's gained the acceptance of the crew by being a skilled sailor, a daring combatant, and a shrewd gambler. She's also very fond of leather clothing, despite the heat.
Jones the Butcher - Deceased
Jones the Butcher was from Camlann in western Avalon, and everyone has forgotten his first name. Until Archibald's arrival he'd been the ship's surgeon, a trade he learned from his uncle (a butcher, hence the nickname). However, after a nasty battle his nickname become more of an epithet and Jones took to calming his nerves by smoking almost constantly and avoiding the rest of the crew. He died at the jaws of a juvenile sea serpent, and seems to be missed by almost no one.
Rory Ronan
An almost comically-small Inishman, Rory was one of the first to sign on aboard the Folly after she became a Sea Dog ship. He's a shantyman, a musician who's chosen a life on the sea and singing about the wild adventures of the Folly's crew. He's got a quick tongue and a quicker temper, and nothing sets him off faster than people making fun of his size. He's become surprisingly good on the guitar he swiped from a Castillian merchantman as well.
Other Crewmembers
Barkey - One of the Originals who made the trip back from the Crescent Empire with Esteban, Barkey's a seasoned sailor but a habitual prankster.
Digric Ceddery - Accident-prone seaman, on his first voyage at sea.
Vera & Gia Musket - The Musket Sisters aren't sisters, but they used to be Sisters. Former Vaticine novices, this pair of girls (one Castillian, one Vodacce) have given up the cloth for a life at sea. To be frank, they're green as glass and can't be trusted with anything sharp or explosive yet, but they provide plenty of amusement for their fellow privateers.
