Description:

Kyle is a handsome, athletic young man with short black hair and green eyes. Being fairly tall for his age, he's used to looking down at most other kids (not in the metaphorical sense). A gifted athlete, Kyle keeps himself in great shape; he is in excellent physical condition with the kind of build that would make any man jealous, especially kids his own age. He dresses fairly comfortably, and is more of a T-shirt and jeans kind of guy, though he often wears his letter jacket, which is decorated with achievements in both sports and academics.

Character Traits:

Kyle loves playing sports, but he hates it when people use that to define him. He believes there's more to him than what he does on the football field, or the basketball court, or the baseball diamond, or the...well, you get the picture. He hates it when people give him preferential treatment because he's an athlete, and tries to counteract such behavior by studying hard at school. He's determined to earn his lot in life, rather than sit back and let people give him gifts he doesn't deserve.

He is very smart, but he has a tendency to say the first thing that comes to mind, and to leap before he looks. Kyle isn't the most diplomatic person, but he prefers to avoid confrontations whenever possible. He is also very protective; when he and his little brother were younger, his brother always used to get picked on because he was short, chubby, and liked "dork stuff." Kyle got into a lot of fights when he was a kid because he wouldn't stand by and let bullies make fun of his brother. This attitude continues to this day, and Kyle acts the same way in regards to his friends, and pretty much anyone he sees being mistreated.

Personal History:

Kyle was born in San Jose, California. His father was a software engineer who worked for a high-profile company in the middle of Silicon Valley. His mother died when he was a year old, and his father later remarried. The Shepards never wanted for money, and Kyle had a very comfortable childhood and attended some of the better public schools in San Jose while growing up. He got involved in sports at an early age, and showed a remarkable talent for just about every one he played, whether it was football, baseball, basketball, hockey, or something else.

When Kyle was sixteen, his father was sent to supervise the installation of a new database at his company's office in Sydney, Australia, and the whole family relocated with him. While living in Sydney, Kyle met and began dating Jenna Russell. While there was a strong mutual attraction between the couple, Kyle's forthright attitude and Jenna's stubborn willfulness got in the way, and they clashed on numerous occasions. When Kyle and his family left Australia six months later, he and Jenna broke up, though Kyle still hasn't decided whether or not that was a good thing.

They returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, settling in Sunnyvale, where his stepmother, a doctor, had gotten a prestigious job at one of the best hospitals in the Bay Area. Kyle began attending the local high school, where he continued to excel both on the field and in the classroom.

Medical History:

Given the amount of time he spends playing sports, Kyle is no stranger to injuries. Fortunately, he's never suffered a major one. Other than that, and the occasional cold here and there, Kyle has no special medical issues. He eats well, exercises often, and generally leads a very healthy life.
