Jack O'Bannon
Character Name: Jack O'Bannon
Nationality: Inish
Age: Mid-twenties
Sex: Male
Height: 6'
Weight: 196 lbs.
Arcana: Uncanny
Description: With his neatly trimmed beard, rugged physique, tousled blue-black hair, and ethereal blue eyes, Jack is rather handsome even if his demeanor can be somewhat off-putting at times. Approximately in his mid-twenties, this Inish-born veteran of the dockyards and alleyways has more than a few scars on his body, most notably one that runs diagonally from his cheekbone to his upper lip. Constantly on the lookout, sniffing the air and checking to see what's behind him, Jack's hands are nearly always on his cutlass or pistols. He has an otherworldly sense about him; every time a person looks at Jack, he's looking right back at them.
Birthplace: Tara, Inismore
Mother: Unknown
Father: Unknown
Siblings: None, as far as he knows
Personal History: A mildly notorious figure on the Tara dockyards, Jack was known amongst his fellows as Smiling Jack, Black Jack, and "The Other O'Bannon." Jack can't really remember his parents, though he thinks that his father was probably a sailor, and his mother a Jenny who got rid of her unwanted child as soon as she was able. Perhaps the lack of any real parents during his childhood is what sent young Jack down the road he ended up on, but he never lets not having known them bother him.
He grew up on the streets of Tara and fell into a life of crime at an early age, picking pockets and filching from the wealthier estates in order to survive. He spent a lot of his time at the docks and signed on with any merchant ship that needed extra deckhands, and became a fairly competent sailor as he grew. When he became older, Jack set about trying to make a name for himself in Tara's criminal underworld. Unfortunately for Jack, he always had a bigger opinion of himself than what was actually true, and his efforts led to little more than his being a source of ridicule for the rest of the docks.
Not long after Jack had started seriously pushing for more prestige around the docks, he suddenly disappeared from Inismore without a word. Though none know what truly happened, many presume that Jack had run away in embarrassment, or one of the true bosses finally had the troublesome wannabe killed, or that young Jack fell in love with a bonny lass and swore off his life of crime forever. The true catalyst behind Jack's disappearance, however, was something far more terrifying.
On an evening that would otherwise have been rather uneventful, Jack was visited by none other than the O'Bannon himself. The O'Bannon had grown tired of Jack using his name, which Jack had taken as a joke, since he had been given none to call his own, and he could no longer stand having a common street thug desecrating it. The O'Bannon then laid a geas on Jack that he would leave Inismore and never be able to return until he had proven that he was worthy of the name Jack O'Bannon.
Needless to say, this is not an obligation that Jack takes lightly. While he's never really been afraid of anything in his life, even Jack knows better than to test the O'Bannon.
Character Traits: Jack fancies himself a great thief and a master sailor, but to be honest, he's only managed to get as far as he has because of his luck. Like him or not, Jack has phenomenally good luck which, combined with his keen sense of danger and his otherworldly eyes, suggests the young Inishman has at least a touch of Sidhe blood running through his veins.
Perhaps part of the reason why few in the Tara docks appreciated Jack was that he never takes anything seriously. No matter what's happening around him, be it fighting in a tavern brawl or sailing through a hurricane, he nearly always has a mad grin on his face as if he's enjoying himself, leading to his nickname Smiling Jack O'Bannon. While many an Inishman has been known to enjoy himself in a fight, the fact that Jack would just give the bosses of the docks one of those irritating grins whenever they tried to intimidate him did not win Jack many friends on the upper echelons of the docks' hierarchy.
That being said, Jack is still quite a gifted sailor, and his ability to shrug off danger and survive just about anything is considered by some to be a very valuable trait (particularly by those who don't have any qualms about body counts).
Medical History: The scar on his face is only the most visible illustration of just how rough a life Jack has led thus far. He has several more scars littered across his body, some of which look like they're from wounds that probably should have been fatal.
